Some of the older women of the town prepare flowers that they will use to decor ate a portable sepulcher. Flowers, wreaths, and pictures of those who have die d over the course of the last year are placed on the bier. This portable sepul - cher is symbolic of the tomb of Christ and His crucifixion. They adorn the sepulcher w ith the images of the deceased so they can simultaneously mourn the death of Ch rist and their loved ones. |

The small town of Olymbos clings to a mountainside on this small island between Crete and Rhodes. The church, center of attention in this small town, seems al most perfect at the center of this view. Most of the houses have been whitewas hed or cleaned in anticipation of Easter. The recently painted houses, along with the bright sunlight, give this small town an unrealistic glow. |
